Teaching and Learning at Forestdale School is based on a rigorous, standards-based curriculum and is supported by Literacy and Math Coaches within the school, and PK-6 Curriculum Coordinators at the district level.
Coaches
Our Literacy Coaches are experienced primary teachers who have been trained at Lesley University Center for Reading Recovery and Literacy Collaborative. Coaches support teachers in the very demanding work of teaching children to read, write, use language effectively, speak and listen. Coaches work with students in classrooms, and work with teachers within their classrooms and during professional development.
Our Math Coach works with teachers to consider how to best reach each student and increase mathematical thinking and skills. The coach works with teachers trying out new teaching approaches, supporting the teaching and analyzing the results. Professional development in effective teaching practices and in understanding math content is provided by the coach.
Curriculum Coordinators
Teaching and Learning is also supported by PK-6 Curriculum Coordinators.
The STEM Curriculum Coordinator supports teachers at Forestdale and Oak Ridge in their instruction and assessment of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics - and yes, we have Engineering in PK-2!
The Humanities Curriculum Coordinator supports teachers at Forestdale and Oak Ridge in their instruction and assessment of Social Studies, Reading, Writing, Word Study, and Speaking and Listening.
