Specials

At Forestdale, students will learn about the unified arts including, art, music, physical education, library and technology. Special Area teachers foster creative, physical, and social-emotional growth in all students and provide a foundation for lifelong learning. The unified arts programs at Forestdale support the whole child as diverse learners to prepare them for success academically, physically and socially through a student-centered, engaging and standards-based curriculum Each grade has music, art, library and technology once a week, while physical education occurs twice a week.

Technology

Technology classes help students develop digital citizenship and digital skills to become a 21st Century Learner. From grades Kindergarten through Second Grade, students will learn how to use a mouse, keyboard, and various applications on electronic devices.

Library

During library, students learn about various authors, illustrators, texts, and develop a love for reading. The modern library program integrates reading books with technology and sharing among the community.

Physical Education

At the Forestdale School, physical education develops the physically literate individual through deliberate practice of well-designed learning tasks that allow for skill acquisition in an instructional climate focused on mastery. During physical education class, students practice the knowledge and skills they have learned through physical activity, which is defined as any bodily movement that results in energy expenditure (SHAPE America)

Art

Each student receives 40 minutes of art instruction once a week in the Art room. Students experience hands-on exploration with a variety of media such as: clay, paint, pastels, yarn, and markers. Both 2D and 3D artworks are created from direct observation, memory, and imagination. The curriculum interweaves critical and creative thinking while developing art skills and art appreciation at the same time making connections from the world around us.

Music

During music each child participates at his or her own level in singing, moving, chanting, listening, watching, and exploring musical instruments. This class is about children expressing and cultivating their unique gifts and talents with confidence, ease, and joy!
